Feeding disorders in childhood: how and when to intervene

Nutrition and eating disorders manifest as refusal to eat or eating less than age-appropriate because of behavioral problems or underlying organic conditions. Regardless of a specific DSM diagnosis, medical treatment focuses on dietary supplements. Malnourished children, unable to absorb adequate energy and nutrients through their mouth, require enteral or, rarely, parenteral nutrition.
