Liver disease is well documented in malnourished patients with anorexia nervosa. In past, elevation of liver tests was associated with refeeding, but most of patients show hypertransaminasemia before refeeding. Currently, the main mechanisms implicated in liver injury in severe malnutrition are the starvation-induced autophay and liver hypoperfusion. An adequate nutritional intervention usually reverses liver inury.
