Mucous-bloody diarrhea in the infant: hunting the culprit!

5-month-old male, hospitalized for a mucous-bloody diarrhea (6-8 discharges/day started 5 days before the admission), in the absence of vomiting or fever. Family history was positive for eggs allergy (mother) and the father had a recent episode of diarrhoea (about 2 days before the hospitalization).The baby was fully breastfed and the weaning commenced about 1 week before admission, in a completely random manner. Diarrhoea started the day after the introduction of eggs mixed with yogurt.
