Dermatological manifestations secondary to IBD and to IBD treatment

IBD are systemic diseases with prevalent gastrointestinal expression. Patients can frequently present extraintestinal manifestations (EIM). Amongst them dermatological manifestations are the most frequent (2-53%). Can be divided into: a) specific, due to the cutaneous diffusions of the intestinal flogistic process, b) reactive, with common pathogenetic mechanisms but different histopathological findings, c) drug induced, and d) secondary to nutritional deficiencies. The dermatological manifestations can appear before the gastrointestinal symptoms. It is of pivotal importance a strict collaboration between gastroenterologists and dermatologist in order to establish the most appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic pathways “
