Patients with cholestatic liver disorders commonly complain pruritus, that has been reported as the most debilitating symptom in children with chronic liver disease. Because cholestatic pruritus is likely a result of multiple mechanisms, combination therapy with agents that have different mechanisms of action may be beneficial. In this article, current concepts regarding pathogenesis and management of cholestatic pruritus in children are reviewed.
