A 22 months old child affected by rectal bleeding without other symptoms was admitted in our hospital. Laboratory findings were not indicative of gastrointestinal inflammation. Detection of ectopic gastric mucosa using 99mTc pertechnetate suggested Meckel’s diverticulum. Laparotomy examination was negative. Colonoscopy and histology findings demonstrated ulcerative colitis. Inflammatory bowel disease must be suspected in all children with lower gastrointestinal bleeding.
