The worldwide prevalence of obesity has increased at an alarming rate not only in adults but also in children. Although there are other contributing factors such as reduced physical activity, the increase in snacking is considered a major factor. One way to reduce the amount of saturated fats in the snacks and limit saturated fat consumption to less than 7% of total daily calories is to limit consumption of foods containing “tropical oils” (coconut, palm and palm kernel oils).
