Histological evaluation is still today one of the key moments for the diagnosis of Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis, as well as differential diagnosis with other forms of colitis. The purpose of this brief discussion is to provide simple, easily reproducible criteria to make possible to understand to pediatrics what are the diagnostic procedures and the basic elements to make a diagnosis as much as possible certain and definitive. It is important to keep in mind that a correct diagnosis is always the result of a team work between different specialists of which the gastroenterologist is the coordination element.
