The consumption of sugars among European children and adolescents exceeds current recommendations. Sugar containing beverages and free sugars increase the risk for overweight/obesity, dental caries, type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases and the Authorities should adopt policies aimed at reducing their intake. This Position paper provides recommendations and practical points onthe intake of free sugars in the paediatric population.
