Role of teduglutide in the management of pediatricpatients with short bowel syndrome

Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) is a complex disease that canresult from physical loss of portions of the small intestinedue to surgery or from loss of function. Lifelong parenteralnutrition (PN) is necessary in patients with extendedintestinal resection. Teduglutide, analog of glucagon-likepeptide 2 (GLP-2), could represent a valid therapeuticstrategy in selected pediatric patients with SBS, reducing theneed for PN and its long-term risks
