Abdominal emergency surgery in the III world
Federico Bozzetti
I report my experience with EMERGENGY, an Italian ngo, which took care of paediatric surgical emergencies in Bangui (Republique Centrafricaine), during the civil war started in December 2012. The main problems were due to the lack of diagnostic facilities, a common situation in countries of the III world, as well as to the difficulty to face extremely complex postoperative situations in absence of a surgical intensive care unit and to the presence of neonatal congenital pathologies of hard solution. All this obliged the surgeon to always work within extremely critical margins of error.
