The gut microbiota: peculiarity in developing countries

Rapid urbanization, changes of dietary habits and sanitation are causing progressive alteration of the human gut microbiota. Ancestral microbiota is at risk of being eliminated. Traditional populations from rural Burkina Faso, living in isolation from the globalized world, can explain the evolutionary processes of the gut microbiota and the development of non-communicable disease in Western world.
