Steroids and bone: management in children with gastrointestinal disease

The glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis is the most common form of secondary osteoporosis. The clinical relevance of uncomplicated low bone density in childhood and its long-term consequences remain difficult to evaluate. The scope of this review is limited to presenting effects of steroid therapy on bone metabolism and how to manage pediatric gastrointestinal patients who receive it.
