Endoscopy is a central tool for the evaluation andmanagement of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In thelast few decades, gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy hasundergone significant technological developmentsincluding availability of pediatric-size equipment, enablingcomprehensive investigation of the GI tract in children.Simultaneously, professional organization of GI expertshave developed guidelines and training programs inpediatric GI endoscopy. This prompted the Porto Group onPediatric IBD of the European Society for PediatricGastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition to developupdated guidelines on the role of GI endoscopy in pediatricIBD, specifically taking into considerations of recentadvances in the diagnosis, disease stratification, and noveltherapeutic targets in these patients.
